2019/20 AIRDRIE STARS HOCKEY ACADEMY WINTER SEASON

2008        |    2007 Major    |    U-13 HSL Varsity

Academy Vision:

Within a team setting we are creating a willingness to compete and excel in hockey with a focus on individual mindset, which will ultimately transition our academy players to compete and excel in every aspect of their futures.  The Hockey Super League reserves the right to move any team to an alternate division to ensure optimal competition for the league.

At this time we will be accepting approved applicants born in the years 2008-2005 Each player will earn his or her spot through the application and interview process. Your player will need to be accepted into the academy based on willingness to compete & excel on and off the ice, previous display of team commitment and attitude towards coaches and respect for the game will play a factor. We will ensure however that all players are of the same skill on the ice (High Tier 1 CAHL/Mid-Level AA SCHAL Caliber)

Player Expectations:

Sign a commitment contract, create goals for themselves & Participate in designing the team vision & values for the season.

Parent Expectations:

Sign a commitment contract & create season goals for your family. Participation in other hockey programs must be approved once a commitment has been made. Zero tolerance for any player or parent behavior which is inconsistent with the fair play, sportsmanship, and team values.

Coaching Philosophy:

Stars Hockey is committed to providing an equal opportunity for participants throughout the season to play and develop. Stars is also committed to maintaining a competitive spirit and mental strength. The expectation is that coaching staff will achieve an appropriate balance between maximum participation of all players while maintaining a competitive edge. This is to say that at the discretion of the coaching staff, should the specific situation in a game exist, a competitive approach may be used to maximize the competitive edge of the team.

The coaching staff will have strict requirements of being certified and trained at the highest levels of available skill development and coaching courses available.

Seasonal Plan:

Conditioning Camp Mid-Late August

Season would run September-March. Majority of the ice-times scheduled in and around the Airdrie area, to accommodate the season plan there will be supplemental ice from within close distance to Airdrie ie. NE Calgary, Slightly North of Airdrie.

Prior to the season each player will undergo a Fitness Test & Optional Blood-test (vitamin deficiency) Parent presentation will be provided at each stage. Mouth-guards are mandatory.

Schedule is designed to accommodate school sports, more family time and less constant travel time on weekends. No Weekend ice will be scheduled except for showcase schedule unless decided upon by a majority of the team. (See below)

Each week we will have a set 2 + 1 Schedule including:

1) Weeknight (1 hr off-ice dry land &/or Mindset session ie. Boxing, CrossFit, Yoga, Mindset Session, Coach Team Building, Paralympic Speaker, Nutritionist, Special guest presentation etc.)

2) Weeknight (1 hr On-Ice Tech Practice) - Tactical Edge, Small area games, Skills & Other development

3) Friday Nights or Late Afternoon (1.25 hr Coach Practice)

4) 9  Showcase weekends - 36 Total League Games (Rural Alberta - Most within driving distance)

* Ice missed while away at showcases will be re-booked as make-up ice as possible.

The HSL Winter Season is played based on a showcase model, where each team plays in a Showcase at a rural Alberta location once a month. A Showcase features 4 games over the weekend, allowing for much less travel. The HSL will book the ice for the Showcase and a schedule will be released when the teams are confirmed. Referees are supplied at all Showcases by the HSL and are under the guidance of a Referee in Chief. Our Referee in Chief is also responsible for any supplemental discipline that needs to be handed out.

October    1 Weekend 4 Games
November 2 Weekends 8 Games
