AIRDRIE STARS HOCKEY ACADEMY WINTER SEASON 

 Academy Vision:

Within a team setting we are creating a willingness to compete and excel in hockey with a focus on individual mindset, which will ultimately transition our academy players to compete and excel in every aspect of their futures. 

Your player will need to be accepted into the academy based on willingness to compete & excel on and off the ice, previous display of team commitment and attitude towards coaches and respect for the game will play a factor.

Season Plan  

Interview Process:  May - July

ID Camps and skates: On Hold Due to Covid-19

Conditioning Camp Mid-Late August 

Season runs September-March. Majority of the ice-times scheduled in and around the Airdrie area, to accommodate the season plan there will be supplemental ice from within close distance to Airdrie ie. Calgary, Beiseker, Cremona, Morley etc.

Schedule is designed to accommodate school sports, more family time and less constant travel time on weekends.  

 

Each week we will have a set 2 + 2 Schedule including: 

  1. 1 hr off-ice (weeknight) Dynamite Boxing
  2. 1 hr On-Ice (weeknight) Skill Development
  3. 1.25 hr Coach Practice (Friday Afternoon's)
  4. 36 Total Games - Game weekends
  5. 1.5 hr Coach Practice Ice (weekends) when not at showcases

Divisional Highlights:

 

2012 DIVISION (2012 and 2013 Elite born athletes) 
Anticipated
 new team for the 2021-2022 Season

  • New team for elite athletes born in 2012 and 2013 
  • Athletes will participate in 75+ hours of development provided by their individual team and skills coaches
  • Formal goalie instruction provided throughout the season from qualified goalie instructor - minimum 10hours
  • Each team will compete in 32 regular-season league games that will take place in a showcase style format (~4 games per weekend)
  • The end of the regular season will culminate with a final HSL Championship Weekend Tournament

2011 DIVISION (2011 and 2012 Elite born athletes) 

  • Athletes will participate in 75+ hours of development provided by their individual team and skills coaches
  • Formal goalie instruction required throughout the season from qualified goalie instructor - minimum 10 hours
  • Each team will compete in 32 regular-season league games that will take place in a showcase style format (~4 games per weekend)
  • The end of the regular season will culminate with a final HSL Championship Weekend Tournament

 

2009 DIVISION (2009 and 2010 Elite born athletes) 

  • Athletes will participate in 75+ hours of development provided by their individual team and skills coaches
  • Formal goalie instruction required throughout the season from qualified goalie instructor - minimum 10 hours
  • Each team will compete in 32 regular-season league games that will take place in a showcase style format (~4 games per weekend)
  • The end of the regular season will culminate with a final HSL Championship Weekend Tournament

 

U14 VARSITY DIVISION (2008 and 2009 Elite born athletes)

  • U14 Varsity is a full contact division that will follow the IIHF Guidelines on Body Contact. There will be a checking clinic before the regular season begins where all HSL Prep athletes will be educated with the three modified checking rules. Safety of our athletes is our #1 priority
  • Teams are equivalent to “2008 Gold Spring Hockey”
  • Athletes will be comprised of 2008 born Gold Level and 2009 Elite Level players
  • No overage players will be allowed unless approved by the HSL
  • Athletes will participate in 90+ hours of development provided by their individual team and skills coaches
  • Formal goalie instruction provided throughout the season from qualified goalie instructor - minimum 15 hours
  • Athletes listed on Elite Prospects Website, Major Junior and Junior A Scouts in attendance at select showcases
  • Each team will compete in 32 regular-season league games that will take place in a showcase style format (~4 games per weekend)
  • The end of the regular season will culminate with a final HSL Championship Weekend Tournament

 

U15 VARSITY DIVISION (2007 and 2008 born athletes)

  • U15 Prep is a full contact division that will follow the IIHF Guidelines on Body Contact. There will be a checking clinic before the regular season begins where all U15 Prep athletes will be educated with the three modified checking rules. Safety of our athletes is our #1 priority;
  • Teams are equivalent to “2007 Gold Spring Hockey”  Athletes comprise of “2007 and 2008 Elite Level” players;
  • No underage athletes allowed unless approved by the HSL
  • Athletes will participate in 90+ hours of development provided by their individual team and skills coaches
  • Formal goalie instruction provided throughout the season from qualified goalie instructor - minimum 15 hours
  • Each team will compete in 32 regular-season league games taking place in a showcase style format (~4 games per weekend); and
  • The end of the regular season will culminate with a final HSL Championship Weekend Tournament
  • Advanced player promotion with athletes listed on Elite Prospects Website, Major Junior and Junior A Scouts in attendance at select showcases and Hockey Super League YouTube Channel Exposure

 

U15 PREP DIVISION (2007 born athletes) 
Anticipated new team for the 2021-2022 Season

  • Stars will be applying for this team 2021 for the start of the season
  • U15 Prep is a full contact division that will follow the IIHF Guidelines on Body Contact. There will be a checking clinic before the regular season begins where all U15 Prep athletes will be educated with the three modified checking rules. Safety of our athletes is our #1 priority;
  • Teams are equivalent to “2007 Elite Spring Hockey”  Athletes comprise of “2007 Elite Level” players;
  • No underage athletes allowed unless approved by the HSL
  • Athletes will participate in 90+ hours of development provided by their individual team and skills coaches
  • Formal goalie instruction provided throughout the season from qualified goalie instructor - minimum 15 hours
  • Each team will compete in 32 regular-season league games taking place in a showcase style format (~4 games per weekend); and
  • The end of the regular season will culminate with a final HSL Championship Weekend Tournament
  • Advanced player promotion with athletes listed on Elite Prospects Website, Major Junior and Junior A Scouts in attendance at select showcases and Hockey Super League YouTube Channel Exposure
  • U15 Prep will be invited to an International Invitational tournament pending HSL approval, that will be used as a showcase for Major Junior scouts as the eligible players move towards the 2022 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft (2007 born athletes are eligible for the draft).
  • Global Exposure via Instat Sports Scouting Network and WEHP - Western Elite Hockey Prospects

 

U17 PREP DIVISION (2006 and 2005 born athletes)

  • U17 Prep is a full contact division that will follow the IIHF Guidelines on Body Contact. There will be a checking clinic before the regular season begins where all U17 Prep athletes will be educated with the three modified checking rules. Safety of our athletes is our #1 priority;
  • Teams are equivalent to “2006 Elite Spring Hockey”.
  • Athletes comprise of “2006 Elite Level” players, with 3 overage (2005 born players) allowed;
  • No underage athletes allowed unless approved by the HSL
  • Athletes will participate in 90+ hours of development provided by their individual team and skills coaches
  • Formal goalie instruction provided throughout the season from qualified goalie instructor - minimum 15 hours
  • Each team will compete in 32 regular-season league games taking place in a showcase style format (~4 games per weekend); and
  • The end of the regular season will culminate with a final HSL Championship Weekend Tournament
  • Advanced player promotion with athletes listed on Elite Prospects Website, Major Junior and Junior A Scouts in attendance at select showcases and Hockey Super League YouTube Channel 
  • Global Exposure via Instat Sports Scouting Network and WEHP - Western Elite Hockey Prospects
